This project is not just, or mainly about a web site. In many ways a public web site is not the main idea, it’s just a place to meet and discuss things that are safe to say to the world. The real project is more private. It is about sharing things with yourself, or with a few people you trust, the public aspect is therefore only intended to be the tip of the iceberg.
One thing I am clear about is that the site should take privacy very seriously. Right now I’ve kept things simple. An author can mark post as private and password protect them, so that they are visible only to the author, or to people they share the password with. Not as secure as I’d like but good enough for starting the project. Additionally the project uses a plugin, that enables the author to share the contents of posts with specific contributors, maybe a partner, or family, or a group of interested authors. Eventually the project may use more sophisticated privacy features such as those provided by Google Circles, or even using strong cryptography and personal certificates.
